Custom contact fields are a powerful way to store additional information about your people beyond the standard name, phone, and email.

There are two main ways to add a custom contact field:

1. Add a Custom Field from an Individual Person’s Record 👤

  1. Open the People section.

  2. Click on the person’s name.

  3. Select Add New in the Custom Fields section.

  4. Choose your field type:

    • Text – great for names, favorite colors, or notes

    • Number – great for ages, counts, or numeric IDs

    • Date – great for birthdays, anniversaries, or milestones

  5. Give the field a name (for example: Child).

Now, when you open this person’s record, you’ll be able to fill in that field (such as entering the name of a child).

2. Add a Custom Field from Settings ⚙️

  1. Go to Settings > Contact Fields.

  2. Here, you’ll see any existing custom fields you’ve created.

    • Example fields: Children, Prayer Requests, Shirt Sizes, Favorite Colors, Important Dates

  3. To add a new one, click Add Field.

  4. Enter:

    • Field Name (how it will appear in the record)

    • Field Type (text, number, or date)

    • Variable Name (used internally by the system)

👉 Leave the default value blank so that each person’s record can be personalized.

Pro Tip 💡

Custom fields can also be connected to Connect Cards, allowing you to gather specific information directly from guests and members when they fill out a card. (We’ll cover this more in another article.)

Why Custom Contact Fields Matter

Custom fields give you the flexibility to capture the details that matter most in your ministry. Whether you’re keeping track of family details, personal preferences, or prayer needs, these fields help you care for people in a more personal and meaningful way. 💙

✅ That’s it! You can add as many custom contact fields as you need and use them across your people records and Connect Cards to make your communication more personal and intentional.
