Before you can connect, follow up, or send personalized messages, you need to get your people into the system. Let’s talk about how to do that with purpose and permission.

📌 Three Simple Ways to Add People

You’ve already got your groups set up—great! Now let’s talk about how to fill them. There are three main ways to add people to your TIC account:

1. Add New Person Manually

Perfect for small groups or when you’re working off a paper Connect Card.

Just click the “New” button and enter details like:

  • First + Last Name

  • Email

  • Mobile Number (important for texting!)

  • Landline (if applicable)

  • Preferred Language

  • Group assignment (drop them directly into a group like “First-Time Guests” or “Leadership Team”)

  • Social profiles and notes

This option is great when entering just a few individuals—especially when you want to make sure they’re in the right group from the start.

2. Import People from a CSV File

This is your best friend if you're working with a larger list—maybe from a church management system, an event registration list, or another database.

Just click the dropdown arrow next to the “New” button and select “Import People.” You’ll see an option to download a template to format your CSV correctly.

3. Quick Add

Today’s focus is on the Quick Add method—because we’re going to practice with your Leadership Team.

Just input:

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Email

  • Phone Number (again, texting is key!)

Then, assign them to your “Leadership Team” group so you’re ready for messaging in Part Four.

💡 Pro Tip: Only add people you’ve obtained permission to text. Text In Church is built to respect privacy and compliance.

✅ About Messaging Permission & Compliance

Before you click “Create Person,” make sure to toggle the setting confirming:
“I have obtained explicit permission to message them.”

That typically means they gave you their phone number directly—through a Connect Card, in person, or via form.

Here’s what happens after you send that first text:

“You’re now receiving messages from [Your Church Name]. If you no longer wish to receive messages, text STOP to opt out.”

This is a one-time compliance message, and it helps protect your ministry and ensure clarity.
So when you make first contact, be sure to explain who you are and why you're reaching out. That way, people are less likely to unsubscribe and more likely to engage.

👥 Action Step: Add Your Leadership Team

Before moving on to Part Four, take a minute to:

  1. Add 2–3 members of your leadership team using the Quick Add method.

  2. Assign them to the Leadership Team group.

  3. Confirm you’ve got texting permission.

Once they’re in, you’ll be all set to send your first group message and practice powerful communication in the next step.
